Saying NO to illegal drug usage

Talking to citizens throughout Hancock County they have expressed to me that they are not happy with the Harm Reduction Kits that are being distributed at Hancock Public Health and I agree.
If you are not familiar with these kits they are kits handed out to addicts to “safely” use illegal drugs. My understanding is the kits did include items such as straws, smoking devices and needles. My understanding talking with the head of HPH there are now only needles, Narcan and the phone number to call when you use incase there is a problem ( I did ask for additional information and to see a kit and I am waiting for that information). This program has no accountability requiring names or addresses. The goal of the program is to gain trust of individuals and they will eventually ask for help and counseling if they don't die.
Although the Commissioners do not control Hancock Public Health we can voice concern of this program. To make a change the community must reach out to board members to stop this from continuing.
As commissioner I will stand with the citizens and say NO to programs that enable the use of illegal drugs.
I believe in helping people help themselves be proactive, happy and healthy citizens in the community but this can not be accomplished by handing out kits to enable individuals to do harm to themselves.
